Rusty Logan

Chair

Dr. Russell (Rusty) Logan is a native of Wetumpka, AL and graduated from Wetumpka High School. He attended Auburn University and received the Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Master of Music in Trombone Performance. Dr. Logan later attended the University of Mississippi where he was awarded the Doctor of Arts in Music Theory. Dr. Logan has served as Director of Bands at Monroe Academy in Forsyth, GA, Victoria High School in Victoria, TX and Auburn High School in Auburn, AL. After serving 24 years as Director of Bands at Auburn High School, he retired on July 1, 2013. While at Auburn High School, the bands were rated Superior, yearly, at the Alabama Bandmasters Association’s Music Performance Assessment, and also performed for the Alabama Music Educators Association, the Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic and the Southern Division of the College Bandmasters Association. Following retirement, Dr. Logan served for two years as the Director for the East Alabama Community Band. He is currently the Principal Trombonist and an Executive Board Member for the Alabama Winds Concert Band and also performs with the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Logan is now serving as Director of Bands at Huntingdon College (Montgomery, AL) where he teaches select music education and music theory classes. In-addition to his classroom duties, Dr. Logan also serves on the staff of the Huntingdon College Scarlet and Grey Band program. On October 1, 2016 Dr. Logan accepted the position of Assistant Executive Director for the Alabama Music Educators Association.

Dr. Logan’s professional affiliations include the Alabama Music Educators Association, Alabama Bandmasters Association, and The National Association for Music Education, The Technology Institute for Music Education and the national fraternity for band directors, Phi Beta Mu.
